Why is silicon so much less electronegative than carbon?

I know that silicon is less electroneg bc it has more electrons further from its nucleus and they repel other electrons it comes in contact with. Si electron cloud is larger, so any electrons that come near it, it would repel. Electrons that come near C are closer to the nucleus and can be stabilized by the positive charge?? I need help organizing my thoughts lo.
