Schedual Screwup?

I recently changed my schedual at work. I called them yesturday to confirm my new start time and they said that it was 10AM. So I get up today get redy and head to work. I ask one of the sups to give me my schedual and he call Operation and they tell him that my start time is 5PM wich meens it never really changed. I live about 20mins from work and now i have to go home then come back. Is there anything leagally i can do like get payed and not show up since they screwed up, wasted my time and gas?
